Why I Left Retail and Consumer-Direct Lending for NEXA

I started in mortgage lending in 2020. Since then I’ve worked retail, consumer direct, and a model where I bought my own leads.

Here’s what pushed me out, what scared me, and what made me ready.

Why I left retail

Three reasons: compensation, control over pricing, and freedom over my time.

I was micromanaged. I commuted 30 miles each way in California traffic, and I worked weekends and holidays.

Why I left consumer direct

Our rates were consistently higher than other lenders’. That made it hard to lock loans and hard to make money.

I’m ambitious and competitive. An hourly rate was never going to be enough for me.

What scared me about going broker

Leads. When you’ve had leads handed to you, generating your own is the scariest part.

What made me ready

My team gives me an organic way to generate leads, with an AI lead tool and a CRM included.

I’ve also bought leads before, so I know how that side works. At NEXA, I’ll finally have a business-expense ledger to pay for marketing.

Why I’m building a team

My main focus is leading a team, not just my own production. The models I worked in before didn’t make that possible.

If you’re where I was, I’d love to help you think it through.
